The Architecture of Asana
Weekend Yoga Workshop with Laura Christensen
This weekend workshop will be a progressive exploration into the architecture of asana. The classes will build upon each other. Using the breath as a guide and the core as a launching pad, we will take a journey up and down the spine, into the shoulder joints, all the way around the hips and through their attached muscles.
Saturday, June 8th
Elongating the Spine and Opening the Shoulders: 9:00-11:30am
The spine is the central and perhaps one of the most important parts of our body. Using breath, core strength and asana, we will work on creating stability and length throughout this central column. Once we wake up the core, we will gently work on expanding the range of motion in the shoulders and opening the chest and upper back.
An Intelligent Journey into Opening the Hips: 2:00-4:30pm
In this workshop, we will slowly breakdown the keys to opening the hips in all their varied ranges of motion including extension, flexion, adduction, abduction, external rotation and internal rotation. We will practice slowly and methodically listening to our bodies and allowing ourselves to gain insight into the hip joints and the surrounding muscles.
Sunday, June 9th 9:30am-12:30pm
Backbends that feel GOOD!
So often, the gauge of a successful backbend is how deep the bend is and how it looks. This workshop challenges that concept and will NOT be focused on the exterior form but how it feels from the inside out. We will use what we learned in both classes on Saturday and add to our understating by breaking down some of the keys that make the backbends feel delicious at the moment AND the next day!
Open to all levels but not appropriate for raw beginners or those who have serious therapeutic issues.
Space is limited. Please register in advance by contacting: (530) 836-1500 or Info@TrailsWithin.com
