Healing From the Inside Out: The Psoas, Muscle of the Soul
with Joanne Varni
September 23-25, 2016
An Introduction to the Psoas Muscle
Friday, September 23rd, 5 – 7:00pm
Somatic movement with an introduction to psoas awareness: Our psoas muscles play a significant role in our physical and emotional well-being. Cultivating a relationship with the psoas or “muscle of the soul” can help us understand when they are tired, distressed, or full of tension. Guided breath-work and simple mindfulness meditation techniques will also be explored.
Accessing the Psoas and the Subtle Body
Saturday, September 24th, 9– 11:30am
Our psoas muscles and nervous system, at their most primal level, appreciate fluid movement. Discover how slowing down and moving with the body and breath’s natural rhythm can invoke a sense of softness, relaxation and release tension. Building on the previous session we will move through a subtle body practice that releases tension in a more gentle way.
Release the Psoas Through Dynamic Movement
Saturday, September 24th, 3:000 – 5:30pm
We all have tension patterns held in our bodies from our life’s experiences. Investigate ways to subtly (and not so subtly) release, unravel, hydrate, lengthen, tone, and soften our psoas and iliopsoas muscles. We will work on ways to get to know our psoas and iliopsoas through gentle/restorative asana, somatic movement, and neurogenic tremoring, a powerful and dynamic release that awakens the subtle body.
