Yoga for the Upper Back, Shoulder, & Neck
Do you have a pain the neck (no, not your boss)? Learn basic anatomy of the shoulder and neck, while exploring yoga postures that help alleviate shoulder, upper back, and neck pain and safer, healthier posture habits. In this workshop we will use the principles of Iyengar Yoga to slowly and mindfully release old tensions and holding patterns in the upper torso to bring more freedom to our movement. Designed to acquaint yoga students, teacher-trainees and teachers with anatomical vocabulary, muscular-skeletal structures and movement patterns in relation to the yoga asanas.
You will learn postures to create more fluid movement in your shoulders and neck. No prior yoga experience is required.
Saturday, September 12 * 9:00-11:30am * $40 early/$50 late
Bottoms Up: An inversion workshop
Change your perspective and your relationship with gravity. This workshop will help you conquer your fear of going upside down, sharpen the mind and challenge the body as you learn the basics of inversions in manageable stages.
Learn ways of preparing for classical inversions, developing your strength and confidence to attempt more challenging poses as you deepen your practice. This workshop will explore sequencing, how to modify inversions, injury management and prevention and guidelines for safe transitions.
Inversions involve any asanas (or poses) that lift the feet above the head. Yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar believes that inversions allow the body to purge impurities, which facilitates strength, firmness, calmness and clarity of mind.
Saturday, September 12 * 1:00-4:00pm * $50 early/$60 late
Mindful Menopause: Yoga for Hot Women of a Certain Age
Menopause means fluctuating hormones, which can make sleep more difficult, belly fat harder to combat, feelings irritability increase, and desire for sex diminish. But yoga can help. In one study, yoga practice cut hot flashes by 31%, and other research has found that regularly doing yoga improved libido, mood, and craving control.
Come explore the possibilities. We will discuss the anatomy and physiology of this transitional time for women. Followed by a few different yoga practices that can be used for the different symptoms of menopause. This workshop is open to all women in all stages of their life; whether you are in menopause, around women in menopause or anticipating going through it yourself!
Sunday, September 13 * 9:00-11:30am * $40 early/$50 late
Smart Ass, Dumb Ass:Â Healthy Hips and the Gluteus Muscles
Do you tightly grip your butt muscles with all your might in yoga poses or is there a “lazy ass” you may not be aware of? This workshop will give you a deeper understanding of the anatomy used in standing poses and hip opening poses. ”Gluteus” is Greek for rump.  The gluteal group of muscles consists of 3 muscles: Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus. How the rump works in yoga poses can affect change in the hip sockets, where the sacrum sits, how the legs work, and how you experience the pose. This workshop will help you experience familiar poses in an unfamiliar way, and help you to get the most benefit out of your standing and hip opening poses.
Space is limited, please register in advance by contacting Emily at Emily@TrailsWithin.com or (530) 836-1500
